Born from an idea Matt Shepherd had back in October 2020, 13 Wanaka locals banded together with a common goal to liven up the lakefront.

The desire was to make the space for live local performance, more regularly.

They recognised there was a huge amount of talent in town, however a lot of it stays hidden because of the lack of opportunities to play regularly and develop their skills. And the local audience has a huge appetite for more gigs.

They also saw it as a way to compliment and work alongside the big festivals of arts and culture that happen locally once or twice a year, ad the good things that are already happening regularly in town.

Guerrilla Gigs is about creating a regular rhythm for arts and culture. To make it part of Wanaka’s identity.
